Opening General Session: Better Care/Better Health/Better Value

AMGA Board Chair Scott D. Hayworth, M.D., Chief Executive Officer, Mount Kisco Medical Group; Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, President and Chief Executive Officer, AMGA; and Richard J. Gilfillan, M.D., Acting Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation
This kick-off presentation will frame the meeting with a discussion of the future of high-performing care organizations, alternate routes to becoming an ACO, the evolution of value-based care in your region, and strategies for maintaining quality care in a time of looming Medicare cuts and other financial challenges.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to discuss various ACO models in the commercial sector and other models of value-based care, and delineate financial strategies to combat dwindling reimbursement.

Panelists: Howard Graman, M.D., Chair Primary Care and Regional Medicine, Carilion Clinic (physician-led model); Grace Terrell, M.D., Chief Executive Officer, Cornerstone (regional ACO model); Richard Fish, Chief Executive Officer, Brown & Toland (IPA model); and Robert Matthews, Executive Director, PriMed Physicians (standalone model)

This panel will explore various models of accountable care organizations and the leadership required to manage the challenges and opportunities each presents.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to evaluate various models for ACOs and determine which would best suit their organization.

General Session: 2011 Acclaim Award Winner

This session will feature the presentation of the 2011 Acclaim Award, AMGA's most prestigious quality award, presented annually by the American Medical Group Foundation, honoring physician-directed organizations that bring the American healthcare system closer to a delivery model in which patients experience care that is safer, more reliable, more responsive, more integrated, and more readily available. The recipient will then explore their winning initiative and the elements that made it successful.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to describe a system-wide quality improvement initiative that uses the IOM aims as guidance.

General Session:  Partnerships with Payers and Providers to Create High-Performing Systems of Care

Plan representatives will discuss ongoing ACO pilots with their medical group partners, including the benefits, challenges, and lessons learned to encourage other medical groups to form these partnerships.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to describe various value-based ACO pilots being developed by insurers.
