      Fred Horton, MHA, is president of AMGA Consulting. Fred is a dynamic healthcare advisor who possesses industry experience, market insight, exemplary capabilities managing diverse and challenging projects and the ability to create tangible results on behalf of his clients. Fred has over 20 years of experience working inside the healthcare industry, including serving as CEO of several large multispecialty medical groups and integrated health systems. He brings his operational, strategic, and financial acumen to his clients in order to create effective and market-sensitive solutions to their challenges. A sampling of his extensive variety of projects includes:

      • Developing and implementing operations improvement plans for system integrated medical groups

      • Managing start-up and turnaround plans for independent and system-integrated medical groups

      • Designing and implementing numerous single-specialty and multispecialty physician compensation plans that create strategic alignment of physicians’ efforts with organizational goals and objectives

      • Developing a strategic redesign of centralized physician recruitment services for regional healthcare systems

      • Assisting health organizations in negotiating various compensation arrangements (i.e., physician employment agreements, physician service agreements, income distribution plans, co-management agreements, and call coverage arrangements)

      Fred holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Healthcare/ Business Administration from Augustana College. He also holds a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from The University of Minnesota. Fred has authored numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on the topics of physician/hospital integration, governance of system based medical groups, medical group operational performance improvement, and physician compensation and physician recruitment.

      Mike Coppola, MBA

      Mike Coppola, MBA, is chief operating officer at AMGA Consulting. Mr. Coppola has more than 30 years of healthcare industry experience, working with prominent health systems and medical groups across the country. He is a seasoned executive leader who has specialized in collaborating with physicians and executives to achieve financial and operational performance improvement throughout the physician enterprise. 

      Prior to joining AMGA Consulting, Mr. Coppola was responsible for strategic medical group operations at several national consulting firms, and developed a one of a kind physician leadership program, used by several hospitals and health systems today. Mr. Coppola also served as an operations executive at Vanguard Health (Now Tenet) over their Chicago Market physician practice operations. 

      Mr. Coppola earned his MBA with Distinction from North Park University, Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DePaul University in Chicago.  In his free time Mike enjoys travel and golf, as well as spending time with his three granddaughters.

      Rose Wagner, RN, MHS, FACMPE

      Rose Wagner, RN, MHS, FACMPE, is a vice president at AMGA Consulting. Rose is recognized as a proven medical practice executive with years of experience working inside both private practice and integrated delivery systems. She possesses strategic and tactical expertise that results in successful financial, operational, and clinical outcomes. She is a collaborative leader and applies this style working with complex teams of internal and external stakeholders.

      Rose has more than 25 years of experience providing leadership in the healthcare industry, including serving as Senior Vice President of Operations for a health system-sponsored medical group that was part of a large integrated health system in Kansas City, MO. Rose also has significant medical group consulting experience, working with numerous groups across the country including developing a comprehensive onboarding for a large medical group in Southern California. She has served as an interim President and CAO for a large employed medical group. She is responsible for leading physician practice management engagements to improve overall medical group performance and operational efficiencies.

      Rose’s special qualifications include:

      • Medical group practice assessment, development and implementation of practice optimization plans to improve operational efficiency

      Rose received an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in Health Services Management from Webster University in Kansas City, MO, in addition to an RN from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Kansas City, MO She is also a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and holds a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma.

      Howard B. Graman, MD

      Vice President

      Howard B. Graman, MD, is a vice president with AMGA Consulting. He has spent the majority of his career as a physician executive with extensive experience in clinical transformational change and leadership in large, multispecialty physician practices. Prior to joining AMGA Consulting, he was CEO of PeaceHealth Medical Group, with more than 900 providers and over 100 practice locations. Additional roles included chair, Department of Primary Care and Regional Medicine, Carilion Clinic, and medical director of Carilion Medical Group, as well as executive director, Cleveland Clinic, and chair, Board of Directors, Cleveland Clinic Hospital (Weston, Florida).

      Earlier in his career, he was professor of medicine at University of Vermont and was a commissioned officer in the National Health Service Corps. He has been actively involved in governance at AMGA and has been an invited speaker at leadership retreats for many member organizations. He completed undergraduate studies at City University of New York, his medical degree at SUNY – Downstate, and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan.

      Jill Powelson, DrPH, MPH, MBA, RN, CPC, CPPM

      Jill Powelson, DrPH, MPH, MBA, RN, CPC, CPPM, is a principal for the High-Performing Physician Enterprise Program at AMGA. Prior to joining AMGA, she was vice president for physician services at the University of Tennessee Medical Group and an executive director at Baptist Medical Group (both in Memphis, TN). She is an experienced administrator in medical group operations and quality leadership.

      Prior to becoming a medical group administrator in the late 1990s, Jill spent 10 years as a consulting leader at a long-term care and senior living organization. Her total healthcare career spans 30+ years. Jill has undergraduate degrees in finance and nursing and began her career as a financial analyst before becoming a registered nurse. She has master’s degrees in business (University of Memphis) and public health (Johns Hopkins University), and a doctorate in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jill is also a certified professional coder and certified physician practice manager through the American Academy of Professional Coders. Since 2019, she has also taught MHA students at the University of Memphis on the subject of healthcare finance.

      Will Holets, MBA, MHA

      Will Holets, MBA, MHA, is a director with AMGA Consulting. His areas of expertise include compensation planning, , operational excellence, strategic planning, process improvement, and data analytics. Prior to joining AMGA Consulting, he held various management and leadership positions across the healthcare field in settings ranging from academic medical centers to for-profit integrated delivery systems. He received his MBA from the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business and his MHA from the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in management from the University of Denver.

      Kelsi O’Brien, MHSA, is a director with AMGA Consulting.       Matthew Wells, PhD, is a Director with AMGA Consulting. Having worked with clients nationally from a care delivery perspective, and, most recently, leading compensation efforts for a nationally known Health Insurer, Matthew brings a unique perspective to the healthcare landscape. Matthew’s extensive background spans 10+ years in healthcare and includes supporting health systems, hospitals, medical groups, and other healthcare entities in operational, financial, and compensation/staffing initiatives.

      Matthew’s areas of expertise include:

      • Compensation plans for value-based and FFS models
      • FMV assessment of individual, PSA, MSA, and other arrangements
      • Merger, acquisition, and integration strategies

      Matthew received dual undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Statistics from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, as well as his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Matthew also earned certification as a CVA in 2017.

      Dustin Gunderson, MBA, is the director of business development for AMGA Consulting and the AMGA High-Performing Physician Enterprise Program. He has supported members of AMGA for more than 12 years in various roles with the association. He helps amplify AMGA Consulting’s exemplary capabilities to organizations across the country. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Marymount University and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the George Mason University.

      Danielle DuBord

      Consultant

      Danielle DuBord is a consultant with AMGA Consulting. Since joining AMGA Consulting in 2015, her main area of expertise includes data analytics, survey development, and benchmarking. Danielle is responsible for conducting AMGA’s longest running survey, the Medical Group Compensation and Productivity Survey, a standard in the industry from more than 30 years.

      Prior to joining AMGA’s consulting group, Danielle developed her keen analytic skills as systems analyst and planner for national and international retail operations. She brings with her 15+ years of experience in analytical problem-solving, operational planning/systems implementation, Lean and Six Sigma processes, and customer service. Danielle is a proven analytical thinker and holds a degree in psychology from Augsburg College.
