      A Unique Perspective

      Medical Group Operations and Finance

AMGA's Medical Group Operations and Finance Survey is unlike any other in the market today. It is the only comprehensive survey delving into the financial and operational performance of large, multispecialty medical groups—with 80% of the data coming from medical groups with more than 150 providers. This annual survey can help medical groups optimize their practice’s staffing and cost structures with data delineated in a variety of ways, including a focused comparison of private practice and integrated health system data. It includes an expansive list of benchmarks, such as:

      • Operational overhead staffing by functional area and role

      • Revenue cycle metrics

      • Patient access/scheduling metrics

      • Telehealth services data

      • Financial performance from high-level summary metrics to line item detail

There are multiple metrics in these areas, with data presented per physician, per provider, and per 10,000 wRVUs, and highlighting the distinction between system-affiliated and independent practices.

      Guiding Your Medical Group Performance

According to our survey data, the median loss (or investment) per physician for all groups (both employed and private practice) is more than $190,000. This figure can often create turmoil between physicians and administrators within medical groups, and many organizations are ill equipped to find ways to “decrease the overall losses” of the medical group or simply don’t know where to begin. To address these challenges, AMGA Consulting has created several services designed to help healthcare organizations drive operational performance, including:

      • Clinic Financial Gap Analysis

      • Practice Optimization Assessment and Implementation

      • Patient Access Assessment and Implementation

With AMGA Consulting, you’ll benefit from senior leaders with a proven playbook to drive operational performance and feel confident you’ve partnered with the right organization to guide your financial performance.

      The Calculus of Addition

In recent years, medical groups have made the strategic decision to add more advanced practice clinicians (APCs) into their provider complement. On the surface, adding APCs seems purely beneficial. However, all that glitters is not gold. If you do not have the right approaches, processes, and recruitment criteria in place, APCs could end up producing a negative, rather than a positive, financial impact.
