      Dr. Edward Yu serves as the chief medical officer for population health/clinical integration at Sutter Health and the vice president for value/population health at Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group (PAMF).

      Through his leadership, PAMF and Sutter has been recognized as a top performer in clinical quality and patient experience by California’s Integrated Healthcare Association’s (IHA) Value Based Pay Programs for multiple consecutive years.

      He is passionate about using a data driven approach to improve patient outcomes and reduce total cost of care.  He has led efforts to promote health equities in COVID vaccine use during the pandemic and reduce health disparities among our patient populations.

      Dr. Yu has been recognized nationally as a quality expert and has presented at many major forums such as Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) National Forum, American Medical Group Association (AMGA), American Academy of Physician Leaders and NCQA’s Quality Innovation Series. He is a certified physician executive, fellow in California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) Leadership Program and a fellow of American Leadership Forum of Silicon Valley Class 43.

      He sits on the board of AMGA Foundation and is a leader in California Medical Association serving as the chair of the Large Group Practice Forum. He also chairs the Technical Measurement Committee for IHA and co-chairs the Clinical Advisory Council for the HL7 Da Vinci Steering Committee which advances interoperability standards using FHIR.

      Dr. Yu continues to provide clinical care as a family physician with his own patient panel in Mountain View, California for over 20 years. He is married with two teenage daughters. His recreational interests include visiting National Parks and film critique. In 2021, he completed his dream of visiting every one of our 63 National Park at New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. Dr. Yu earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in genetics from University of California, Davis.

      Stephanie Copeland, MD, MBA, CPHQ, CPXP serves as both the regional medical director for quality & risk adjustment at Wellmed North Texas and national medical director for quality performance management/Optum Clinical performance.

      USMD is a physician-led, integrated health system committed to providing value to patients through high-quality and cost-effective care. USMD has been part of OptumCare since 2016. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, USMD serves the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area with more than 250 physicians and associate practitioners, and provides healthcare services to patients in nearly 20 different specialties at its two hospitals, one cancer treatment center and nearly 60 physician clinics. Dr. Copeland joined USMD in 2003 as a general pediatrician, and prior to her CQO role, Dr. Copeland was the chair of pediatrics at Medical Clinic of North Texas/USMD for more than six years.

      Dr. Copeland attended Abilene Christian University and graduated medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She completed her residency at UT Southwestern/Children's Medical Center in Dallas where she also served as chief resident. She has also previously served as a volunteer private practice clinical assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical School/Children's Medical Center Dallas and currently serves as the Chair of the AMGA Quality Improvement Council and as a member of the AMGA Foundation Board.

      Frederick J. Bloom, Jr., MD, MMM

      Frederick Bloom, MD, MMM is chief population health officer of Guthrie Clinic.  The Guthrie Clinic is a rural integrated health system in the northern tier of central Pennsylvania and the southern tier of upstate New York.

      The Guthrie Clinic includes four hospitals in the region and the 470 provider Guthrie Medical Group. Dr. Bloom served as the president of the medical group and currently is a practicing family medicine physician.  He joined Guthrie in 2014 from Geisinger Health System where he worked for 28 years in increasing roles of physician leadership. Dr. Bloom graduated from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and subsequently did his Family Medicine Residency at Saint Vincent Health Care Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Dr. Bloom also earned his Master of Medical Management at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.  Dr. Bloom is a frequent national speaker and author of numerous peer review articles on high value health care. He serves on the CAPG Board, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Recognition Review Oversight Committee and was the former chairperson of the American Medical Group Association Quality Council.

      Jerry Penso, MD, MBA

      Jerry Penso, M.D., M.B.A., is president and chief executive officer at AMGA (American Medical Group Association), a trade association that represents medical groups and other organized systems of care, including some of the nation’s largest, most influential integrated healthcare delivery systems.

      Dr. Penso previously served as chief medical and quality officer for AMGA and president of AMGA Foundation. Under his leadership, the impact of AMGA’s quality programs grew to improve care for 26 million patients.

      Prior to joining AMGA, Dr. Penso served as medical director, continuum of care for Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group (SRSMG), the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in San Diego.

      Dr. Penso received his Master’s in Business Administration from San Diego State University, his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

      John W. Kennedy, MD

      John W. Kennedy, M.D., is President, AMGA Foundation, and Chief Medical Officer, AMGA. Dr. Kennedy previously served as division director of endocrinology at Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA, where he led the clinical, education, research, and quality program development and expansion for the health system.

      Prior to his role at Geisinger, Dr. Kennedy served as managing partner at Diabetes & Endocrinology Associates, P.A., in Hamilton, NJ. There, he transitioned the hospital-owned group into a four-physician specialty private practice.

      Dr. Kennedy is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College, now the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, in Philadelphia, PA. He performed his internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and his fellowship in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Dr. Kennedy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry.

      Alka Atal-Barrio, MD, MMM, FAAP

      Alka Atal-Barrio, M.D. is a practicing pediatrician and chief medical officer at The Everett Clinic, a care delivery organization of Optum. She is responsible for medical staff management, clinical programs and policies, quality and safety, clinical pharmacy and advancing the clinic’s care model.

      In overseeing this ongoing evolution of care, Dr. Atal-Barrio is helping ensure The Everett Clinic continues providing the highest quality of care at an affordable cost as it increasingly transitions to value-based care model supporting population health. Dr. Atal-Barrio joined the Clinic in 1994 and has served in a variety of medical leadership roles since 2001. She was appointed to her current role in 2019. Previously, she served as facility medical director from 2001-2013, primary care service line medical director from 2014-2016, chief clinical officer from 2016-2018. She also served on The Everett Clinic Board of Directors. Dr. Atal-Barrio has 26 years of experience in active clinical practice. Among her awards, she has been recognized as a Top Doc for Seattle Magazine and honored with the Outstanding Physician Leadership Award in 2012. Dr. Atal-Barrio received her undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester and medical degree from Stanford University. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and served as Chief Resident there. She earned a master’s in medical management from University of Southern California in 2014. Dr. Atal-Barrio is Board certified in Pediatrics and remains a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

      Parag Agnihotri, MD

      Parag Agnihotri, MD, is the chief medical officer of Population Health Services at UC San Diego Health. He oversees the Physician Network, a clinically integrated network made up of UC San Diego Health faculty, regional hospitals, community primary care providers and specialists.

      His role focuses on reforming health care by working with multidisciplinary teams to build and implement tools that improve the health of the population. As a practicing physician in the Division of Geriatrics, Dr. Agnihotri leads the post-acute care strategy for UC San Diego Health and he plays a key role in supporting teams that serve the elderly patient population.

      Dr. Agnihotri is a California Health Care Foundation fellow. He has been designated as an Innovation Advisor by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. In 2019 he received the Multi-Community Innovative Leadership Award from the Right Care Initiative, which recognizes healthcare leaders and innovators across California.

      He has published several articles on the management and outcomes of high-risk populations. Dr. Agnihotri is recognized as a national leader in the development of high performing health systems, technology use, and population health management. He serves on the board of California Long Term Care and Be There San Diego and is an active member of the steering committee for California Quality Collaborative.

      Dr. Agnihotri completed his residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine.

      Nancy R. Beran, MD, MHCDS, FACP, CPE

      Nancy Beran, MD, MHCDS, FACP, CPE, is the vice president and chief quality officer for ambulatory at Northwell Health.  In this role, Dr. Beran develops system-wide quality improvement initiatives for an ambulatory network of over 800 sites and 2 million patients.

      She creates standardized performace dashboards and designs key performance indicators for ambulatory quality.  Dr. Beran established an Ambulatory Quality Improvement Collaborative (AQIC) designed to create a system-standardized approach to improve population health on key disease processes and key performance indicators.  She is focused on identifying at risk populations, creating programs to help address inequities and barriers to care, and building programs to improve access and escalation.

      Previously Dr. Beran served as chief medical officer of Westchester Health Medical. She has presented on women leadership in practice management and on collaborative care strategies to support behavioral health in ambulatory care. Dr. Beran received a grant from the Katz Institute for Women’s Health for Healthy Mom-Happy Child: Screening and Treatment of Depression during the Child Rearing Years.

      She is affiliated with the following professional organizations: American Association for Physician Leadership, AMGA and AMGA’s CMO council, American College of Physicians-Fellow, Westchester County Medical Association, Medical Society of the State of New York, and Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Dr. Beran completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas and served as chief resident in primary care at Dallas Veterans Medical Center.  She earned her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College

      Scott Berkowitz, MD, MBA

      Scott Berkowitz is chief population health officer and vice president of population health for Johns Hopkins Medicine. Appointed to this role in 2020, Dr. Berkowitz leads population health activities across the enterprise. He is an associate professor of cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with a secondary appointment in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology.

      Dr. Berkowitz first came to Johns Hopkins in 2003 as an intern, and joined the cardiology faculty in 2011. Since then, he has held positions throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine focused on leading health care delivery transformation efforts. He helped launch and oversee several major initiatives and programs to improve coordination of care and innovation in clinical care and population health.

      Previously, Dr. Berkowitz was a senior medical director within the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians. He was the program administrator and project director for the Johns Hopkins Community Health Partnership (J-CHiP), which led to improved outcomes for thousands of patients in East Baltimore. Since 2014, he has served as the executive director of Johns Hopkins Medicine Alliance for Patients.

      A fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, Dr. Berkowitz has served on expert committees for both related to population health. He has held positions in federal and state government, including as a fellow in the U.S. Senate Finance Committee during the passage of the Affordable Care Act; on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee; and as a senior health care policy development adviser to the governor of Illinois. In 2020, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan appointed him to represent The Johns Hopkins University on the Maryland State Board of Physicians.

      Dr. Berkowitz received his bachelor’s degree in biology, master’s degree in business administration and medical degree from Yale University. He completed his residency and cardiology fellowship training as well as a geriatrics research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

      John Clark, MD, PhD

      Dr. John Clark is the chief population health officer with Sharp Rees-Stealey Medical Group in San Diego, CA.

      He previously worked as the chief quality officer and associate chief medical officer at Southwestern Health Resources in Dallas, TX. Dr. Clark completed his medical degree and a PhD of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Miami. He is board-certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics and also certified in obesity medicine. In his clinical practice, he has worked as a primary care physician and as a specialist in non-surgical weight management. 

      Francis Colangelo, MD,FACP,MS-HQS

      As a physician and a leader, Dr. Frank Colangelo is committed to transforming healthcare for the patients in Premier Medical Associate’s communities. Through Premier’s membership with the AMGA, Dr. Colangelo collaborates on a national level with the most progressive and innovative physician groups in the country to bring higher quality medical care and best practices into our exam rooms.

      As a founding physician with Premier Medical Associates, Dr. Colangelo has been a valuable member of Premier’s board of directors for the last ten years. He is also an active member and speaker with the AMGA. Frank received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and a Masters of Health Care Quality and Safety from Thomas Jefferson University. He resides in Murrysville, PA, with his wife, Georgia.

      Neeta Goel, MD

      Dr. Neeta Goel is a seasoned family physician and healthcare executive with over 15 years of leadership experience.

      She currently serves as vice president of clinical excellence for ambulatory services and chief medical officer of the clinically integrated network at Inova, where she oversees quality, safety, and patient experience across nearly 300 primary and specialty care sites. Her leadership in value-based care has consistently driven improved patient outcomes and cost efficiencies, making a profound impact on the healthcare system.

      Dr. Goel is widely recognized for her expertise in enhancing clinical processes, driving patient-centered care, and fostering physician engagement. She has spearheaded key initiatives to enhance access to care, digital health, telemedicine, and comprehensive patient safety programs. Recently, she led a system-wide depression screening initiative, increasing mental health care awareness across Inova.

      Beyond her role at Inova, Dr. Goel has held leadership positions within prominent national and state organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, and America’s Physician Groups. A key voice in advancing clinical practice and shaping healthcare policy, she is frequently featured as a speaker and contributor in various healthcare industry forums. Additionally, she is a passionate advocate for physician well-being, serving as co-chair of the Physician Well-Being Committee at the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians, where she is also a past president.

      Dr. Goel completed her family medicine residency at the Medical University of Ohio and is board-certified in family medicine. With a deep dedication to improving healthcare delivery, she is committed to fostering collaborative, outcomes-driven initiatives that prioritize both patient care and physician well-being.

      Dan McCall, MD, MSPH

      Dr. McCall is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

      He completed his internal medicine residency along with a fellowship in endocrinology, metabolism, and diabetes at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. He obtained a Masters of Science in Public Health at the University of Colorado where he published his research identifying factors associated with poor diabetes care of Medicare beneficiaries.  He joined the Hattiesburg Clinic in 2003 providing endocrinology specialty care for patients throughout southern Mississippi. From 2015 – 2021 he served as the associate medical director of Hattiesburg Clinic’s Medicare and Commercial ACO contracts and has served as medical director since 2021.  He remains active in the development, implementation, and assessment of population health efforts at the Hattiesburg Clinic.

      Aileen Mickey, MD, MHA

      Aileen Mickey, MD, MHA, is the president of the MaineHealth Medical Group, the largest multi-specialty medical group in northern New England.

      Previously, Dr. Mickey filled a number of roles at EvergreenHealth Medical Group over a 12-year career, including as a pulmonary/critical care physician, chief medical officer and chief administrative officer. Dr. Mickey earned her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, served as chief resident at Boston City Hospital and completed a pulmonary/critical care fellowship at Boston University. Recently, Dr. Mickey received a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Washington.

      Puneeta Sharma, MD, CPE

      Dr. Puneeta Sharma is a highly accomplished mission driven and result-focused physician executive with more than 20 years of combined experience in clinical medicine, health care administration and strategic leadership.

      As Chief Medical Officer for a 500 + multispecialty group, Dr. Sharma is responsible for ensuring delivery of exceptional patient care and driving strategic initiatives to improve health care delivery and outcomes. Her expertise includes talent management, relationship building, developing enterprise-wide dashboards, creating value-based care models and leading data driven strategies to foster continuous improvement across multidisciplinary teams. While serving on the board for Coligo Care, New Jersey’s top ranked ACO, Dr. Sharma has successfully designed and implemented innovative performance frameworks that enhance quality, access, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

      Dr. Sharma has extensive experience as an academician. In her prior role as a Residency and Fellowship Program Director, she has mentored countless students, residents & fellows and developed innovative curricula & scholarly programs that advance medical training and prepare future health care leaders. Fostering a culture of learning and excellence within training programs, Dr. Sharma currently provides executive oversight to all of Valley’s Graduate Medical Education Programs.

      Dr. Sharma earned her medical degree from Karnatak Institute of Medical Sciences, India, completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York City Health & Hospitals /Lincoln, Bronx NY and holds board certification in Hospice and Palliative Care. Passionate about reframing the experience of health care from both consumer and provider perspective, she pursued Masters in Health Care Management at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.

      Dr. Sharma’s progressive experience from a front-line clinician, academician to a senior executive managing care delivery across diverse settings, positions her well in leading large scale impactful change.

      Martine Thurin, JD, MS

      Martine Thurin is the senior director for commercial effectiveness and business solutions for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine.

      In Martine’s previous role, she led the development and execution of the global Janssen Vaccines education and advocacy strategy to increase awareness and trust in vaccinations, in partnership with external and internal stakeholders across functions and geographies.

      Martine also served as the Cardiovascular and Metabolism (CVM) National Sales Director leading the Cardiovascular Sales team. In this role, Martine created Project Constellation – an infrastructure so field leaders could develop an integrated strategic approach to drive brand strategy at a local level and led to the creation of the CVM field board of directors. Critical to this was her leadership in developing an integrated visualization tool that helped RBDs gain a broader perspective and insights into their regions' key markets.

      Martine graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and received her Master of Science degree in Neuroscience from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She subsequently attained her Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School and practiced law in New York State for five years before joining Johnson & Johnson.

      Vincenza Snow, MD

      Dr. Snow is a general internist with special interests in adult immunization, evidence-based guideline development, clinical policy, medical education, performance measurement, and practice-based quality improvement.

      She currently is a Senior Medical Director for Vaccines at Pfizer, Inc. Dr. Snow has served on many national committees and policy bodies such as the CDC ACIP Evidence-based Recommendations Work Group, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Roundtable on Evidence-based Guidelines, the provider workgroup (former chair) of the CDC/AMA Influenza Summit, liaison to the USPSTF of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance, among many others.

      Her academic affiliations include the Medical College of Pennsylvania where she served as volunteer faculty until 2003 and she was a Senior Fellow in the Jefferson School of Population Health until 2013. She was seeing patients one day a week at a free clinic for the uninsured in South Philadelphia until 2012.
