      Obesity Management Quality Improvement Collaborative

      {% PageTitle %}
      Obesity affects roughly 4 in 10 U.S. adults, yet it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in primary care. This white paper reports results from AMGA Foundation's Obesity Management Quality Improvement Collaborative, in which six medical groups and health systems serving approximately 3.6 million adult patients worked to improve obesity diagnosis and evidence-based treatment. Over a nine-month intervention period, the group-weighted average rate of formal obesity diagnosis rose from 57% to 63%, and the rate of any guideline-recommended obesity treatment rose from 23% to 33%. The paper describes each organization's interventions, including EHR SmartSets and pathways, virtual weight management clinics, GLP-1 follow-up e-visits, bulk referrals to health coaching, physician-level performance reporting, and health equity strategies. It closes with cross-Collaborative lessons learned and opportunities for continued work. The Collaborative was supported by an independent grant from Lilly.
